Oscars 2014: 10 Underdogs Who Might Get Surprise Nominations
6. Best Original Song "Doby" From Anchorman 2
Alright, so this one really isn't likely at all, as I doubt the song branch has enough of a sense of humour about itself to nominate such a radically against-type, self-aware song as the brilliant "Doby" from Anchorman 2. There are 75 qualifying songs to choose from, and Doby hasn't even made the outside lists of most notable Oscar prognosticators. But from a personal perspective, it's easily the most memorable and distinctive song of the year, even if it's pretty short and thoroughly poking fun at the sorts of maudlin songs that so often end up winning Oscars. This year's Best Original Song really lacks a barn-burning classic like last year's Skyfall by Adele, so they'll probably go for a relatively safe yet agreeable glut of tunes (like "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen), rather than something this out-there. But wouldn't I love to see the Blu-ray adverts refer to Anchorman 2 as "the Oscar-nominated Anchorman 2"? You bet I would.
