5. Her Wins Original Screenplay
Speaking of screenplays, here's one that's much more likely to happen. David O. Russell's American Hustle has received way too much love or an awful lot of hate, depending on your personal stance on the film (I find myself smack in the middle), but the one award pundits have been locking in from the get-go has been Original Screenplay. Enter Spike Jonze with a heartfelt and original love-story set in the not-too-distant future where people wear funny pants, the color blue doesn't exist, and scorned lovers turn to machines for emotional healing. Winning the Golden Globe was the first indication that Spike Jonze's chance were big but no one expected it to win the WGA against American Hustle. Then it did. All of a sudden American Hustle could be walking away with nothing, and Her could walk away an Oscar winner. We are going to find out how high the chances of Her winning Original Screenplay are very early on. If Jennifer Lawrence ends up winning two Oscars in a row, Her's chances for winning sky rocket. If Lupita N'yongo nabs Best Supporting Actress, American Hustle will more than likely leave empty handed unless it takes Original Screenplay away from Her. I'll be crushed if N'yongo doesn't win, but would feel slightly compensated if Spike Jonze win an Oscar for writing because of it. Her is easily the most original of all 2013 stories and Jonze is one of the most original voices working in Hollywood.
