Oscars 2014: 10 Wins That Would Make This Year's Oscars Worth Watching
4. The Hunt Wins Foreign Language Film
This is the Rubik's Cube of Oscar categories. In years where frontrunners seemed locked, they were left standing and applauding surprise winners. Year after year, this category has been pretty hard to predict, thus making it one of the most interesting to look forward to. This year's nominees are all worthy of their place, Italy's The Great Beauty considered to be the frontrunner because of its general reception and Golden Globe win. But pundits have also been noting Belgium's Broken Circle Breakdown as a fiery contender thanks to how emotionally drained it leaves you, and that's something the voters for this particular category love to feel. Personally, I'm going to be holding out all hope that Denmark's The Hunt comes out on top as a pleasant surprise. It could be considered to be the darkest of the five nominees, but thanks to Mads Mikkelsen's masterful performance (for which he won Best Actor at Cannes) and Thomas Vinterberg's skillful directing, The Hunt is one of those movies that's impossible to forget. A story of how an ordinary man's life turns upside down in a small Danish town after he's accused of child molestation speaks volumes about the nature of truth and the consequences of hysteria. The kind of subjects which are usually passed over, but that are important enough to award.
