Oscars 2014: 10 Wins That Would Make This Year's Oscars Worth Watching
6. The Wolf Of Wall Street Wins Adapted Screenplay
Not receiving a nomination for its editing was a big blow to Wolf Of Wall Street's chances at being any kind of threat for Best Picture. The Academy clearly loved it because it gifted a surprise nomination to Jonah Hill and didn't forget about Martin Scorsese, but not getting one of its expected locks was a bit of a shocker. Thankfully the film didn't receive a similar kind of snub in its writing because Terence Winter's energetic and razor sharp screenplay adapted from Jordan Belfort's memoir of the same name was secured. Running close to three hours, the film is an unstoppable force of hedonism and while every major player should be thanked, it's Winter's screenplay that provided the momentum and blueprint for some of 2013's most unforgettable scenes. Similar to #8, this one is considered a long shot but not entirely impossible. Like loads of categories this year, Adapted Screenplay is at least a two-horse race with 12 Years A Salve and Captain Phillips (the WGA winner) leading the way. Hot on their heels is a determined contender high on Quaaludes who could end up being the surprising highlight of the night.
