Oscars 2014: 18 Sublime Moments That Define Best Picture Nominees

8. The Moon Song - Her

Most of the relationship depicted between Theodore and Samantha in Her is fairly unique bordering on uncomfortable, but there is one serene scene that makes everything just feel harmlessly acceptable. During what is arguably the strongest point in the relationship, director Spike Jonze mixes together a montage of our two lovers - which is a beautiful scene in and of itself - but it's the irresistibly charming Moon Song that makes a quick sequence all the more heartwarming and memorable. It also helps that the film version of the song is actually sung by Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson; it's simply far more inviting and engaging than using the studio version by Karen O. That isn't to say the studio version is bad, but the lyrics of the song are intertwined with the characterization of Theodore and Samantha, adding a great deal of complexity to the relationship when actually being performed by the actors.
