Oscars 2014: Predicting 10 Best Picture Contenders For Next Year

9. Diana

As we all know, biopics are a tricky business; they can either end up fastidious and impeccable like Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, or murky and misguided like The Iron Lady, therefore the impending Princess Diana biopic is fairly low on this list for safety's sake. What's certain is that Naomi Watts absolutely looks the part, and given that from The Impossible we know she can nail a British accent, it's likely that even if the film doesn't make the cut, Watts will probably snag a Best Actress nomination, and a Makeup & Hairstyling nod looks promising too. Oliver Hirschbiegel is best-known for Downfall, his stunning film about Hitler's final days, and though his foray into the English-language realm hasn't been as stellar (The Invasion), here's to hoping that something rooted in fascinating real life circumstances gives the director the push back towards greatness that he needs.
