Oscars 2015: 10 Outrageous Decisions That Are Completely Wrong
10. Best Sound - Interstellar
Surely this has to be a joke? Interstellar was a mixed bag, delighting as many critics as it confused others, and turning audiences against each other to argue the merits of time travel and causality, but it was a triumph of visuals. The extended, lovingly crafted space shots were like a love letter to astro-photography, and the wide-eyed fascination with the alien-ness of even the most familiar of astral bodies was exactly what the spirit of the tone needed. Quite how the cinematography was ignored, when the sound mixing and editing - the two most roundly abused aspects of the film (and rightly so, since they were bloody BROKEN) - were given validation is beyond a joke. Why It Went Wrong... Who knows? Interstellar missed out on all but production recognition (despite a strong claim from the wings that Christopher Nolan's artistic vision might almost have been enough to warrant Best Director), so perhaps this was just a matter of giving it as many nominations as possible in lieu of any important film-making ones?
