Oscars 2016: 8 Biggest Mistakes The Academy Made

8. Best Supporting Actor

Who Won? Mark Rylance - Bridge Of Spies It was great to see Bridge Of Spies win an Oscar; Steven Spielberg's latest was a competent-cum-masterful thriller that risked getting lost in the shuffle merely because the quality of those involved meant it was nothing special (Tom Hanks and the Coens are so dependable at this point). But, while Mark Rylance was indeed brilliant in the film, it's hardly an awards worthy performance; it fits snugly in the movie and, if I'm being honest, never matches what Hanks brings. Who Should Have Won? Sylvester Stallone - Creed Sylvester Stallone has delivered an amazing performance as Rocky Balboa over a period of four decades. It is a painful, nuanced portrayal of a Philly meathead becoming a success, then turning into a humbled man. While the Rocky movies varied in quality, Stallone always worked on them, but nothing (bar the original) matches Creed. Ryan Coogler's movie is incredible anyway - it wrongly missed out on consideration for Picture, and Actor - but his tortured turn, bringing a character we already knew to deeper levels, was the sort of thing Oscar was made for.
