Oscars 2016: 8 Biggest Mistakes The Academy Made

7. Best Original Song

What Won? Writing's On The Wall (Spectre) - Sam Smith I am one of the few living people who didn't hate Sam Smith's Bond theme - the opening credits for Spectre were pretty awful (hentai, seriously?) but the song wasn't terrible and much better than the sh*te we got from Quantum Of Solace. But was it as good as Skyfall? Hell, no! Given that Adele's song was the first Bond score to win this award, it feels pretty paltry for her achievement to be sullied by it being comparable with Smith's effort. What Should Have Won? 'Til It Happens To You (The Hunting Ground) - Lady Gaga 'Til It Happens To You was this year's "impact song" - the performance of Original Song that got the members of the audience in tears, and that is so definitely testament to the quality of the song at hand. It is not only a well written song delivered by an incredibly talented singer, but it has a strong, hurting message behind it. Lady Gaga's performance on stage in the Dolby Theatre was accompanied by a crowd of survivors of rape, hammering home the importance of her performance. A minor film should not mean awards ignorance.
