Oscars 2017 Nominations: 15 Shocks & Snubs

2. Snub: Amy Adams (Best Actress)

Suicide Squad Joker Oscar
Paramount Pictures

Best Actress is always a ferociously-contested category, and this year was no exception, but it was still a major disappointment that Amy Adams didn't get recognised for her immense performance in Arrival.

There were quite a few surprises here, as Isabelle Huppert (Elle) and Ruth Negga (Loving) managed to sneak in despite being on the fringe for a while. Unsurprisingly, Meryl Streep was nominated once again for an admittedly very solid turn in Florence Foster Jenkins, though one not nearly as terrific as Adams' turn.

So much of the film's emotion rests on Adams' shoulders, and she totally nailed it, so it's a shame that for all the movie was nominated for, it couldn't land one of the most important nods of all.

On the plus side, at least she doesn't get to be a six-time nominee without a win, because Emma Stone's got the Oscar won.
