While many are singing the praises of La La Land's record-tying 14 Oscar nominations, there was a record straight-up broken this year that's gone unnoticed by many.

Kevin O'Connell is a veteran sound engineer who has been nominated an insane 21 times over the last 33 years, for movies such as Dune, Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Twister, The Rock, Pearl Harbour, Spider-Man, Transformers, and now Hacksaw Ridge. He has been labelled "Oscar's biggest loser", due to having the most nominations of any person in history without a win.

This is O'Connell's first nomination in nine years, and while he's almost certainly going to lose out to La La Land, it's hard not to root for the guy moving forward. And people say Roger Deakins is long overdue...
