Oscars 2017 Nominations: 15 Shocks & Snubs
7. Shock: The Lobster (Best Original Screenplay)
For most Europeans, it's simply odd that The Lobster is even eligible for an Oscar in 2017, considering the movie came out there almost 18 months ago.
Even so, it's great to see Yorgos Lanthimos' black comedy recognised, though it can be argued that its Best Original Screenplay nod took the place of, say, Captain Fantastic or Zootopia.
It hasn't got a hope in Hell of winning (La La Land will probably steal it from Manchester by the Sea), but the mere fact the Academy recognised such a strange, entrancing film is honestly awesome enough. The win would be hilarious, but it's not happening.
