Oscars 2017: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

13. Best Animated Feature Film

Oscars Casey Affleck Denzel Washington
Disney

Nominees: Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, My Life As a Zucchini, The Red Turtle, Zootopia

Who Should Win

Zootopia.

Disney have been on a roll in the past few years with their animated output, rising back above Pixar to deliver the best the format has to offer. That was the case again with Zootopia (or Zootropolis), a particularly strong film that blends great comedy with some excellent animation, and delivers a surprisingly deep take (for a Disney movie) on racism and diversity.

Who Will Win

Kubo And The Two Strings.

Zootopia was probably the frontrunner for this until quite recently, but the fact Kubo picked up the BAFTA should help Laika's cause. Similarly, the fact it has a Visual Effects nomination (only the second animated movie in history to do so) suggests it's a big hit with the Academy, and if it's not going to get rewarded there, then this seems like a good chance to do so. Disney's votes, meanwhile, could be split, giving this an even better chance of victory.
