Oscars 2017: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

14. Best Animated Short Film

Oscars Casey Affleck Denzel Washington
Pixar

Nominees: Blind Vaysha, Borrowed Time, Pear Cider and Cigarettes, Pearl, Piper

Who Should Win

Piper.

Piper, like most of Pixar's shorts, manages to pack a lot into just a few minutes: cute characters, a lovely, heartwarming story that feels like an animated version of Planet Earth (about a sanderling overcoming its fear of water), and some truly fantastic CGI, in particular on the detailing of the birds.

Who Will Win

Piper.

Pixar don't have anywhere near as good a track record in this category as you might expect, with their last win coming in 2001, but they should put that right here. It's the standout entry, and the most easily accessible and likely widest seen of the bunch.
