Oscars 2018: 11 Blockbuster Movies That Deserve Best Picture Consideration

3. Thor: Ragnarok

If you've become long fed-up of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's output feeling a little safe and complacent, Thor: Ragnarok was at least a partial antidote to that, with its acid-inspired sound and visuals creating a distinctly unique superhero movie and by far Thor's best outing to date.

Taika Waititi graduates to the big leagues here, triumphantly bringing his unique comedic voice to the MCU in uproarious fashion. From the action to the one-liners, the insane visuals and everything in-between, it's incredible proof that not every MCU film needs to follow a distinct formula, and auteur fimmakers can still have a voice in tentpole filmmaking.

How Likely Is It?: Best Picture? No way, no how. The Hulk alone is too "silly" for Oscar voters, to say nothing of the movie's insanity elsewhere. Though it definitely deserves recognition for its visual effects and costume design, the early word is that Ragnarok's probably getting shut out completely. 1/10
