Oscars 2018: 11 Blockbuster Movies That Deserve Best Picture Consideration

4. It

It Pennywise
Warner Bros.

Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's It is one of the strongest big-budget studio horror films of the last decade, a shockingly brutal, terrifying and superbly acted effort which puts an uncommon emphasis on character development over a conveyor belt of scares...though it's got plenty of that too.

With the Best Picture field being expanded to 10 movies in recent years, the Academy does tend to throw a bone or two to populist, well-made hits, so could Oscar spring for Pennywise the Dancing Clown this year?

How Likely Is It?: The Academy has an irrational hatred for horror, so the fact that Get Out will probably get a Best Picture nomination effectively fills the Oscars' "we're not snobs!" quota.

Sadly It is almost definitely going to get shut out entirely, even if it's most certainly worthy of a Best Costume Design for Pennywise's creepy outfit alone. 0.5/10
