Edgar Wright's latest action comedy may not boast the subversive or progressive qualities of the aforementioned movies, but it is one of the year's best genre efforts, a breakneck heist film propelled by excellent use of music and impeccably-edited action sequences.

It's about as far as you can get from a conventional Best Picture nominee, but with the incredible directorial precision on display, and just how damn fun the movie is, why the hell not?

If the Academy can nominate pap like The Blind Side and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, what about movies people en masse actually liked?

How Likely Is It?: Not a chance, especially with Kevin Spacey being part of the film's cast. Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing are its only likely nominations. Jump for joy if it happens, but it won't. 1/10
