Oscars 2018: 11 Blockbuster Movies That Deserve Best Picture Consideration
5. Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan has long been in search of the movie that would force the Academy to take him seriously, especially after The Dark Knight was snubbed for Best Picture, Inception only won crafts awards despite a Best Picture nod, and Interstellar was only nominated in crafts categories.
Dunkirk is most certainly that movie, a tight, brutally intense war film - and we all know how much the Academy loves war films - bolstered by an excellent ensemble cast, astonishing technical attention-to-detail, and an unconventional narrative structure.
How Likely Is It?: There is no world where Dunkirk doesn't get nominated for Best Picture alongside Best Director for Nolan, not to mention a fleet of other technical nods.
The real question is whether Dunkirk can beat out the hot Best Picture favourite, The Shape of Water, but at this stage, anything is possible. 9/10
