Oscars 2018: 9 Ups & 8 Downs

The biggest awards shock of the night was unquestionably Jordan Peele scooping the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Get Out.

The smart money was on Martin McDonagh winning the gong for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, but Peele somehow sneaked a last-minute triumph, and even if he wasn't your number one choice, it was hard not to be thrilled for him.

It's a major achievement for the horror genre, which is so rarely recognised in this field, but moreso, it made Peele the only black writer in history to win the Best Original Screenplay award, a shocking and somewhat depressing fact considering this is the 90th Academy Awards and all.
