Oscars 2018 Nominations: 18 Shocks & Snubs

7. Snub: Beauty & The Beast's "Evermore" (Best Original Song)

The Best Original Song category is always fairly unadventurous, in that it rarely steps outside the box and nominates anything more than milquetoast pop music, so it seemed like Beauty and the Beast's "Evermore", widely agreed to be the best original composition from the new movie, was a lock for a nomination.

Call Me by Your Name, Coco and The Greatest Showman had three slots sewn up, but Mudbound's "Mighty River" was less of a sure thing, and either way, it really seemed like a movie as popular as Beauty and the Beast would get in here no problem.

Perhaps the auto-tuning and digital treatments applied to almost every song in Beauty and the Beast dissuaded people from voting for it, but whatever the reason, the film had to settle for just two nods for Costume Design and Production Design.
