Over the last four years, Netflix has scored a scattering of Oscar nominations for its documentary feature and documentary shorts, with the streaming giant even winning its first Oscar last year for Best Documentary Short.

However, 2018 saw the company's first ever narrative feature score "serious" Oscar consideration, with Dee Rees' terrific Mudbound earning four nominations for Best Supporting Actress (Mary J. Blige), Best Original Song, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

The latter nomination is especially meaningful as it's the first time a woman has ever been nominated for Best Cinematography.

But considering that Netflix has struggled to break out of the documentary awards categories until now, Mudbound being recognised in meatier categories is an encouraging step forward for the streaming platform and the Academy's approval of it.

What do you make of this year's Oscar nominations? Shout them out in the comments!
