Oscars 2018 Nominations: 18 Shocks & Snubs

15. Snub: The Greatest Showman & Murder On The Orient Express (Best Costume Design)

Hugh Jackman's other big movie this year fared a little more middlingly with Oscar voters, for though The Greatest Showman scored an expected Best Original Song nomination, it ended up missing out on Best Costume Design, which given the film's lavish array of threads, was pretty surprising.

Elsewhere, Murder on the Orient Express' dapper designs were also snubbed, with The Shape of Water and Victoria and Abdul instead scoring semi-surprising nominations.

With Phantom Thread's focus on costume design within its narrative, it's set to steamroll this category, so it's all for naughty anyway. Still, it was pretty damn unexpected that these two extravagant productions both missed out on being recognised.
