Oscars 2018 Nominations: 18 Shocks & Snubs

14. Shock: The Boss Baby (Best Animated Feature)

The Boss Baby is now an Oscar nominated movie. Let that sink in for a moment. Though the film has its loyal army of defenders, it was incredibly surprising to see the divisive movie beat out both The Lego Batman Movie and Cars 3 to land a nod.

Even if the movie's subject matter wasn't thoroughly daft, the fact that it's ultimately a fairly mediocre concoction of poopy pants gags and vaguely subversive humour makes it surprising that the animated branch, who also nominated classier fare like The Breadwinner and Loving Vincent, would spring for something so blatantly juvenile.

Now Fox gets to slap a bunch of Oscar logos over the movie's Blu-ray boxes. That's on you, Academy.
