Oscars 2019: 10 Great Films That Didn't Get A Single Nomination (And What They Deserved)

What It Deserved: Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Film Editing, Director

No 2018 film was more balls to the wall, flat out entertaining from start to finish than Mission: Impossible - Fallout. While it was never going to get a look in at Best Picture, it could and should have still received a couple of nods.

The sound categories are where action films can often do well, and Fallout is superb in that regard, using its sound to enhance just about every aspect of the movie, making it especially thrilling in the action sequences to ratchet up the excitement.

Also brilliant, though more unlikely to be nominated, are its editing and direction. Despite being around two-and-a-half hours long the pacing of the movie never lets up for a second. Eddie Hamilton allows the film to run along faster than Tom Cruise, but without losing sight of the emotional beats too. All of this, of course, comes under the stewardship of Christopher McQuarrie. If George Miller can be nominated for Mad Max: Fury Road, then there shouldn't be any reason McQuarrie - whose flick delivers multiple jaw-dropping action scenes - couldn't be here.
