Oscars 2019: Predicting All The Nominees

6. Original Screenplay

First Reformed Ethan Hawke
A24

The Screenplay categories are often among the most interesting at the Oscars, as they're where films that might get into Best Picture, Director, or Acting categories can still find some recognition, such as The Big Sick being nominated here last year.

That bodes well for a couple of smaller films outside the Best Picture picture, such as Eighth Grade, A Quiet Place, and First Reformed, with the first two picking up WGA nods to boost their chances, and the Academy having a chance to recognise Paul Schrader long career. The Favourite was ineligible for the WGAs, but it's been getting nominations (and some wins) just about everywhere else. Roma, Vice, and Green Book have been mainstays in this category too (and the controversy surrounding the latter might've been too late to stop it from getting noms). It'd be great to see Sorry To Bother You be a left-field pick here, but it feels like a massive outside chance.

Nominees:

The Favourite

First Reformed

Green Book

Roma

Vice
