Oscars 2019: Predicting All The Nominees

2. Best Director

A Star Is Born Bradley Cooper Lady Gaga
Warner Bros.

As is the case with most of the Guild Awards, the Academy usually follows suit bar one nomination here, which means we can expect four from these four to be nominated: Alfonso Cuaron, Bradley Cooper, Peter Farrelly, Spike Lee, and Adam McKay. Those five were all nominated at the Golden Globes, while Critics' Choice added in Damien Chazelle and Yorgos Lanthimos.

Lanthimos would seem to have the best chance of spoiling things here, since The Favourite is going to be competing in so many other major categories, and it'd certainly be more interesting than going for Farrelly and McKay. Chazelle deserves it, but First Man hasn't been playing too well in the bigger categories, while it'd also be nice to see someone like Debra Granik in here, but her work on Leave No Trace might be too understated.

Nominees:

Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born)

Alfonso Cuaron (Roma)

Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite)

Spike Lee (BlackKklansman)

Adam McKay (Vice)
