Oscars 2019: Predicting All The Nominees

3. Actress In A Leading Role

Glenn Close The Wife
Sony Pictures Classics

There's quite a clear big three here, with Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, and Olivia Colman completely dominating awards season so far, and nothing about to change that. Melissa McCarthy is looking good too for the fourth spot, barring surprises, which leaves a battle for fifth between a few worth nominees.

Toni Collette gives one HELL of a performance in Hereditary, but it hasn't been in the picture much, so, unfortunately, she probably won't sneak in. That means it'll come down to Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns) and Yalitza Aparicio (Roma). Blunt got the SAG nomination, but Roma is playing much better generally, and with it being such a huge Best Picture contender you'd expect it to get an acting nod too (not since Slumdog Millionaire has a film won Best Picture without a single acting nom, and only 11 have ever managed the feat).

Nominees:

Yalitza Aparicio (Roma)

Glenn Close (The Wife)

Olivia Colman (The Favourite)

Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born)

Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?)
