Oscars 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
8. Laura Dern Wins Best Supporting Actress
Perhaps even more overdue an Oscar than Brad Pitt was Laura Dern, who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for her sublime performance as divorce lawyer Nora Fanshaw in Marriage Story.
This was Dern's third acting nomination, but more importantly, the culmination of a career full of splendid performances.
Dern touchingly dedicated the Oscar to her parents Diane Ladd (who was in attendance with her) and Bruce Dern, who are themselves three-time and two-time Oscar nominees respectively.
Dern's win marks the first win for herself or her parents, with a combined total of eight nominations between them over the last 45 years. And even outside of her legacy, this was one of the most purely deserving wins of the night for sure.
