6. The Irishman Gets Totally Shut Out
Though there were many reasons to be thrilled with the night's results, it was nevertheless hugely disappointing to see Martin Scorsese's The Irishman leave Oscar night empty handed, winning not a single of its 10 nominations.
This puts the gangster epic in the history books as one of just six films to receive at least 10 nominations without a single win, alongside The Color Purple, The Turning Point, Scorsese's own Gangs of New York, True Grit, and American Hustle.
It also speaks to a wider sluggish performance for Netflix, which despite having 24 nominations to its name this year, took home just two wins, with Best Actress for Marriage Story and Best Documentary for American Factory.
Beyond The Irishman, there were also arguably disappointing showings for Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, and Little Women, each of which scooped just one award a-piece.
Given how several of these films - especially The Irishman and Marriage Story - were considered Oscar frontrunners earlier in the race, it's a pretty shocking crash and burn.
