Oscars 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
5. Toy Story 4 Beats Klaus For Best Animated Film
This year's Best Animated Film race was the most exciting and aggressively contested it's been in years, especially with the late-day success of Netflix's Klaus in the precursor awards shows.
But the broader Academy voting base sadly didn't vote as adventurously, and on Oscar night the gong predictably went to Pixar's Toy Story 4 instead.
Though it's tough to argue with how great the sequel was, Pixar already has a shelf full of Oscars, while Klaus winning would've been a potent statement about the viability of hand-drawn animation.
It's often joked about that older Academy voters prejudiced against animation simply vote for the Pixar film as a default, and that was quite probably the case here.
