Oscars 2020: 15 Insanely Early Predictions For Next Year's Academy Awards

10. Best Original Screenplay: Jordan Peele - Us

Other Nominees: Scott Z. Burns (The Report), Lena Waithe (Queen & Slim), Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit)

The bigger films this year look more likely to play in the Adapted Screenplay category, but that should give a few fresher faces a chance here. Lena Waithe has already gained a lot of acclaim over the last couple of years, and Queen & Slim, which stars Daniel Kaluuya, is the kind of film that may get some recognition here after not quite making the top grade. Tarantino is a given in this category, while Burns' The Report was the buzziest hit from Sundance. Waititi's Jojo Rabbit is a curious one, because it sounds so weird (and brilliant). It'll take a lot more time to see if voters will go for that higher-up, but Waititi's screenplays are one of his biggest strengths. Others to keep an eye on here are Mindy Kaling's Late Night, which earned rave reviews at Sundance, and A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood.

Jordan Peele won here a couple of years ago, and Us is shaping up to repeat Get Out's success. However, while he may make it into the bigger races again, it also looks like he might miss out again too. Tarantino has had to 'make do' with Screenplay awards, and might finally make the leap this year, so there'll be no qualms about awarding Peele once more. Us looks to be a genius of invention that starts with a layered and surprising script, which should be enough to give him a second statue.
