Oscars 2020 Nominations: 16 Biggest Shocks, Snubs & Surprises
14. Surprise: Scarlett Johansson Receives Her First Two Oscar Nominations
Scarlett Johansson has "finally" become an Oscar nominee, and quiet poetically, it happened just as she appears to be letting go of her tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But what's really surprising is that Johansson ended up receiving two nominations - Best Actress for Marriage Story, and Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit.
This places her in the small club of just 12 actors to receive two acting nominations in the same year, and the first in 13 years since Cate Blanchett scored nominations for both Elizabeth: The Golden Age (Best Actress) and I’m Not There (Best Supporting Actress).
Though there were whispers of Johansson receiving dual nods in the days leading up to the nominations announcement, it seemed quite probable that she'd get pushed out of the stacked Best Supporting Actress category.
But alas, she prevailed in both, and while she's unlikely to ultimately score wins in either category, it's one hell of a career boost all the same.
