Oscars 2020: Predicting The Winners In Every Category
13. Best Film Editing
WINNER
Parasite
NOMINEES
Ford v Ferrari
The Irishman
Jojo Rabbit
Joker
A Best Film Editing nomination is typically a strong indicator of a film's Best Picture chances, though this year's field is complicated by the omission of 1917, which is surely primarily a result of Lee Smith's one-take editing being effectively "invisible."
Birdman, which similarly opted for a one-shot trick and was also deprived of a Best Film Editing nomination, still went on to win Best Picture, though.
Parasite is the film to beat here, winning the top dramatic honour from the ACE Eddie Awards, while Jojo Rabbit won the comedy equivalent and will be the probable runner-up.
That's not to forget the general industry love for legendary editor Thelma Schoonmaker and her incredible work making The Irishman so watchable despite its epic runtime, nor the kinetically thrilling editing of Ford v Ferrari.
