Unless the Academy really has something against Roger Deakins, he's going to take home a well-earned second Oscar for his beautiful lensing on 1917, on his fifteenth nomination no less.

Deakins has scooped pretty much every major precursor win, and so it's totally his to lose. Given how difficult it is to even consider a second-place pick here, he must be a sure thing.

More than any other film on this list, 1917 sold itself as an aesthetic event which must be seen on the biggest screen possible, and the rapturous response to his work seems to fully reflect that.
