The film is timely and hard hitting but also warm and celebratory, however it is the four performances that keep this film afloat. Everyone is putting in amazing work but it is Odom Jr. who is the most captivating thanks to his contradictory views that find himself at odds with Malcolm X.
Kingsley Ben-Adir will have a tough time breaking into a crowded Best Actor race but, Odom Jr. will easily take advantage of the rather scattered Best Supporting Actor category with his unrelenting performance. His strong arc is bound to get him noticed and may even take him all the way to a win.
