Oscars 2021: Final Predictions In All 23 Categories
5. Best Supporting Actor
The easiest of the acting categories to call, Daniel Kaluuya has swept the season being the only actor this year to win every major precursor. The nomination of his co-star LaKeith Stanfield in this same category caused some discussions of category fraud but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve recognition. Every year Supporting Actor is bloated with more lead stars that it isn't that surprising to see Stanfield nominated.
Paul Raci is the only unquestionably supporting actor here with a role that is both authentic and close to Raci's heart. Sacha Baron Cohen has been singled out from Trial of the Chicago 7's excellent ensemble and there's a chance that some voters will look at him as a 'vote for one is a vote for all' kind of nominee but it won't be enough.
Leslie Odom Jr. is excellent in One Night in Miami but he may vote split with himself as he is also nominated in Best Song. Stanfield goes to some great lengths to portray the many layers of Bill O'Neil but this is too late in the game to consider him a threat to Kaluuya's momentum.
This will be the only place where Judas and the Black Messiah will realistically be awarded and the Academy will not want to miss that chance.
