Oscars 2021: Final Predictions In All 23 Categories
3. Best Actor
What would have been the most competitive Best Actor race in years has narrowed since the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman.
There are three men here who could easily win in any other year but they sadly have to go against each other. Riz Ahmed gives an exceptional performance in Sound of Metal and makes it very clear that he'll be back and will no doubt win an Oscar in the future.
The other two are slightly more difficult to navigate. Again, both men deserve to win, but by rights Anthony Hopkins should have swept the season as the best performance of the year. Hopkins portrayal of a man suffering from dementia in The Father is a once-in-a-lifetime performance and is faultless in its execution.
Chadwick Boseman also gives the best work of his career and there is no doubt that a win for him here is a celebration of his life and career as well as the performance he gives in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
Perhaps with Hopkins' surprise BAFTA win this race is closer than people are giving it credit for and it is starting to mirror upset wins of the past (Olivia Colman over Glenn Close and Alan Arkin over Eddie Murphy come to mind) but for every one voter that recognises the superior performance of Hopkins, two more want to honour the life of the Chadwick Boseman.
What Should Win: Anthony Hopkins
What Will Win: Chadwick Boseman
