17. Jude Hill - Belfast

If you're betting on the probable Best Picture winner right now, the smart money is absolutely on Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, a coming-of-age film based on the filmmaker's own childhood growing up during The Troubles in Belfast in the late 1960s.

It's also perhaps the most aggressive, across-the-board acting threat, as each of its five main cast members could very well end up scoring acting nominations if the stars align.

Surely the most interesting of the bunch is 11-year-old Jude Hill, who plays young protagonist Buddy and, if nominated, would become the second-youngest Best Actor nominee in history behind Jackie Cooper, who was just nine years old when nominated for Skippy in 1931.

Though the Academy doesn't often recognise actors this young, Hill's performance has received raves from many critics for bringing welcome levity to its more downcast drama, so don't even consider counting him out.
