Jane Campion's new Western drama The Power of the Dog has received rave reviews from every film festival it's played so far, ensuring it's a guaranteed Best Picture nominee and sure to be a major contender in numerous acting categories.

Kirsten Dunst has been on such an acting roll over the last decade-or-so that it's easy to assume she already has at least one Oscar nod to her name, but sadly not.

That's all set to change early next year, though, as her performance in Campion's film as young widowed mother Rose has earned universal raves since its premiere, ensuring she's an absolute, stone cold lock for a Best Supporting Actress nod.

It remains to be seen whether Dunst can go all the way to victory given the stiff competition, but she's a dead-cert for a nomination unless absolute disaster strikes.
