1. A Streaming Service Wins Best Picture For The First Time
There has been considerable pushback in recent years about the prospect of a direct-to-streaming film winning the Best Picture Oscar, but this year for the first time it finally happened.
While many expected Netflix to be the first streaming service to scoop Best Picture with The Power of the Dog, it of course actually went to Apple TV+ for CODA.
It's fair to say that the barrier of prejudice against streaming films has now been categorically broken down, reiterating that great films are great films no matter where they're shown.
There's little denying that pandemic-related changes in viewing habits have helped normalise streaming films as being just as refined as movies you'd watch on the big screen, and this year's two-horse battle between Netflix and Apple feels like the final word on that.
