Oscars 2023: Final Predictions In Every Category
7. Best Adapted Screenplay
NOMINEES:
All Quiet on the Western Front
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Living
Top Gun: Maverick
Women Talking
What Should Win:
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
This is a tough category to sort through, but we can immediately discount Top Gun: Maverick because, c'mon, it's a well-written script but hardly on the level of the other nominees.
Even though Glass Onion is only here because of the Academy's divisive rule about sequels being "adaptations," it's another tightly woven piece of writing from Rian Johnson and would serve as a solid consolation prize after Knives Out lost its Original Screenplay nod to Parasite back in 2020.
What Will Win:
Women Talking
Sarah Polley just took home the WGA for Adapted Screenplay, which places her in a strong position to repeat this coming weekend, especially given the industry respect for Polley and the fact that it'll be voters' only realistic chance to award Women Talking anything.
