Oscars 2024: 20 Insanely Early Predictions
3. Best Cinematography: Hoyte Van Hoytema Finally Wins (Oppenheimer)
This year's Best Cinematography category was an absolute mess, with a number of worthy nominees - Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, and The Batman - getting bafflingly snubbed.
Hopefully things will be a little less bleak in 2024, but one movie you can absolutely count on receiving a nomination? Oppenheimer.
Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema has a single Oscar nomination to his name for Nolan's Dunkirk, though many consider him worthy of many more nominations than that, for his work on Her, Interstellar, and most recently Nope.
The trailers for Oppenheimer have made the film's technical ingenuity clear, and given that most of the movie's effects will reportedly be achieved practically in-camera, it'll certainly be a testament to Hoytema's craftsmanship.
He'll have to fend off Greig Fraser (Dune: Part Two) and Rodrigo Prieto (Killers of the Flower Moon) among others, but this could very well be his year.
