Oscars 2024 Review: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
Ups...
10. A Night Of Satisfying Winners
For the overwhelming majority, this year's batch of winners was a satisfying and diverse bunch.
From Oppenheimer being the night's big winner with seven wins, to seeing Da'Vine Joy Randolph win Best Supporting Actress (The Holdovers), The Zone of Interest winning a surprising Best Sound Oscar, and Anatomy of a Fall and American Fiction triumphing in the screenplay categories, there was a nice spreading of the wealth among movies both big and small.
Even if your personal faves didn't win, there were few objectionable winners among the lot.
Following up last year's near-equally gratifying show, it indicates that the Academy's more inclusive membership in recent years has resulted in a far stronger slate of winners, leaving the Oscars' stereotypical penchant for stuffy, emotionally obvious drama firmly in the dust.
