Oscars: Ranking Every Best Animated Feature Film
16. Big Hero 6
Save perhaps The Boxtrolls, Big Hero 6 was the weakest nominee in 2014, forced to compete with the epic How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Studio Ghibli's all-time great drama The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, but still somehow winning.
That's not to say Big Hero 6 is a poor film, though. A relatively exciting superhero adventure inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, it follows an inflatable robot called Baymax who befriends a young inventor and joins a team of amateur heroes to fight a frightening supervillain.
With fun action sequences, affecting voice work and the scene-stealing hilarity of Baymax, Big Hero 6 is far from the most innovative film story-wise, but still ticks all the boxes on a pure entertainment level. How it beat any of the other nominees will forever be a mystery, though.
