Oscars: Ranking Every Best Animated Feature Film

15. Soul

Coco Pixar
Disney+

Securing Pixar legend Pete Docter with his third of three wins in the Best Animated Feature race, Soul is a messy but emotional assessment of life, death, and chasing dreams. It stars Jamie Foxx as a jazz musician trying to reunite with his soul after an accident and fights for a second chance at life.

With beautiful visuals and a powerful message about acceptance, Soul is certainly one of Pixar's more affecting projects, though it clearly lacks the storytelling finesse of its finer works, occasionally letting itself down with convoluted twists.

Undeniably keeping up with Pixar's aim of creating animated movies for young and old alike that spark important conversations, Soul is both whimsical and creative, though it definitely shouldn't have taken the award over Tomm Moore's glorious fantasy Wolfwalkers, which was a firm favourite until the very end.
