20 INSANE Recent Movies You Probably Missed

Utopia

Affirming the age-old adage that a documentary about a runaway film production is almost always better than the film itself, we have Megadoc - a warts-and-all account of the making of Francis Ford Coppola's mega-budget 2024 dud Megalopolis.

For reasons that will only make sense to Coppola, he granted filmmaker Mike Figgis extensive access to the set throughout the shoot, allowing him to capture the absolute seat-of-the-pants insanity of its production.

It's fascinating watching the cast attempt to make sense of the film they're making, with the many fiery interactions between Coppola and Shia LaBeouf being an easy highlight.

Figgis is a fly on the wall who simply needs to roll the camera and watch sheer chaos unfold, and the result is a stupefyingly entertaining examination of the creative process - one that almost makes Megalopolis itself feel worth it.

But because Megalopolis was a massive flop, this doc is a firmly niche appeal project that's going to be seen by few outside of card-carrying cinephile circles.
