Owen Wilson: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Randy Dupree - You, Me, And Dupree (2006)

With Owen Wilson in the third-wheel role as the disruptive friend who gravitates towards mischief and trouble, You, Me, And Dupree is a largely forgettable entry in the romantic comedy genre. Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson take the lead roles as an under-pressure couple who take pity on their friend Randy Dupree (Wilson); allowing him to sleep on their couch until he gets back on his feet. Dupree continues to inadvertently cause chaos - and that's the basis for a very watery comedy in which Wilson barely gets out of second gear. The movie contains some scattered chuckles, but is otherwise a largely dull and lifeless affair. Wilson's performance can be considered in the same sort of context, occasionally inciting mild laughter but otherwise simply drifting along without ever creating the same kind of appeal he did for another similarly self-absorbed and mischievous character in Wedding Crashers. Several critics expressed concerns that Wilson was all set to wear out his welcome after this performance in You, Me And Dupree, but the star was thankfully soon back on his feet with the likes of The Darjeeling Limited and Marley & Me a few months down the line.
