Pacific Rim 3: 10 Things We Want To See

7. Less Cringe-Worthy "Comic Relief"

Pacific Rim Uprising Jules
Universal

The Pacific Rim series has been shamelessly goofy since its inception, though Uprising arguably tipped the balance a little too far by trying to appeal more blatantly to the young teenage crowd at the expense of, well, everyone else.

John Boyega's Jake Pontecost in particular ends up saddled with a slew of painfully unfunny one-liners, lacking the silly charm of the humour present in the original film and basically proving embarrassing to anyone over the age of about 16.

Pacific Rim 3 desperately needs to move away from this and back to the more subdued, less-braindead comedy of the first film.

How Likely Is It?: If DeKnight writes the film with the same committee responsible for Uprising's script, there's no chance this'll be remedied. Honestly, if a third film does actually happen, it'll probably pander even harder to the tween set in the hope of scoring a stronger box office haul. 3/10
