Pacific Rim 3: 10 Things We Want To See
5. Nate Dies In Act One
There's already been plenty of vitriol for Scott Eastwood's rather flat performance in Uprising as cadet trainer and Jake's former co-pilot Nate Lambert.
Though the character of Nate isn't inherently bad conceptually, serving as a playful riff on the hard-a** drill sergeant stereotype, he's ultimately rendered a bore due to Eastwood's oddly charisma-free performance and the character being written with little genuine interest.
If those in charge are killing off beloved franchise characters like Mako, why not also wipe out someone fans aren't remotely attached to? Nate needs to die in PR3's opening set-piece, and though the uneasy bond between him and Jake isn't at all palpable, it might at least give Jake a greater motivation to get the job done.
How Likely Is It?: Doubtful, regardless of whether or not Eastwood returns. He's a handsome, all-American white guy, and they'll probably want to keep him in the mix to maintain middle-American interest (though they're clearly not much interested in these movies anyway).
Plus, DeKnight and co. may well feel that killing another of Jake's friends in act one might feel a little repetitive. It's probably not happening. 3/10
