3. Dr. Hermann Gottlieb

And now we're getting to the characters who actually qualify as at least halfway decent. The movie thankfully didn't ruin Hermann (Burn Gorman), instantly propelling him to the upper tiers of its roster as a result, even if his banter (and giddy gay subtext) with Newt is disappointingly scaled-back in this instance.

Still, Hermann's a fun presence whenever he's on screen, even with the script's deficiencies in mind, and he stays true to what made him so likeable the first time around. Burn Gorman plays the part so well, though it's a shame he didn't get a little more to do in the final stretch.
